1969 Chevrolet Chevelle COPO

This 1969 Chevrolet Chevelle is one of those anomalies that will have you scratching your head in disbelief. It’s not an SS, yet it has the SS hood, Magnum 500 wheels, and blacked-out grille. It also has a High Performance 427 engine that wasn't available for the A-body in 1969. Or was it?

What you see here is one of only 323 Chevelle COPOs built in 1969. And since it is a COPO, the rules that apply to production Chevelles don’t apply here. Buyers could basically order whatever features and options they desired or until their wallet was drained of all its cash.

This Chevelle also comes equipped with a Muncie M21 4-speed manual transmission, tachometer and gauge cluster package, and center dash clock. Special order red paint, white vinyl top, and parchment-on-black Strato bucket seats also set this Chevelle apart from the rest.

This beauty will cross Mecum’s Chicago auction on October 8th. For more info, check out mecum.com.

10/17/2016 Update: The 1969 Chevrolet Chevelle COPO did not sell with a high bid of $120,000.
