The 2019 Ford Mustang Bullitt: A Legend 50 Years in the Making

Fifty years ago, movie goers watched Steve McQueen chase a couple of hitmen through the streets of San Francisco in the movie “Bullitt”. McQueen’s Ford Mustang GT eventually runs the bad guys’ Dodge Charger off the road where it crashes into a gas station and explodes in a massive fireball. That nine minute, 42 second car chase is one of the most memorable ever filmed. McQueen may have been the star of the movie but his 1968 Ford Mustang GT took center stage during the chase.

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the movie “Bullitt”, Ford introduces the 2019 Ford Mustang Bullitt. This limited edition throwback features styling cues from the movie car such as Dark Highland Green paint, blacked-out 19-inch wheels, and a black front grille. The interior features leather-trimmed green accent stitching on the dashboard, door panels, and center console. The interior also features a 12-inch instrument cluster with a Bullitt-centric startup screen in green with an image of the car instead of the pony.

“This new Bullitt is, as Steve McQueen was, effortlessly cool,” said Darrell Behmer, Mustang chief designer. “As a designer, it’s my favorite Mustang – devoid of stripes, spoilers and badges. It doesn’t need to scream about anything – it’s just cool.”

The Bullitt Mustang packs quite a punch. Under the hood lies a 5.0-liter V8 with at least 475 horsepower and 420 lb.-ft. of torque. Hold on because the top speed is a time-bending 163 mph.

Standard performance equipment includes all Mustang GT Premium and Performance Package goodies plus an active valve performance exhaust, Black NitroPlate exhaust tips, an Open Air Induction System, and Shelby GT350 intake manifold.

The Bullitt’s options sheet features three really cool choices. The Bullitt Electronics Package comprises navigation, driver memory seats and mirrors, upgraded stereo system, and a blind spot information system with cross-traffic alert. A MagneRide suspension system and RECARO leather seats round out the other two options.

Look for the 2019 Ford Mustang Bullitt to hit dealer showrooms this summer.
