Setting The Pace: The 2020 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Indianapolis 500 Pace Car
It should come as no surprise that the 2020 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray has been chosen to pace the 104th Indianapolis 500. The Corvette has had the honor of pacing the prestigious race more than any other vehicle on the planet. In fact, the Corvette has been chosen a total of 17 times. This year, a Torch Red coupe with special Indy 500 graphics will be driven by GM President Mark Reuss.
The race will be held on Sunday, August 23rd at 2:30 p.m. Eastern Time. This is the first time the race hasn’t been staged during the month of May.
“It’s truly an honor to have the opportunity to be behind the wheel of the mid-engine Corvette Pace Car at such a historic race as the Indy 500,” said GM President Mark Reuss. “The 2020 Corvette Stingray is the result of a close collaboration between the Corvette Racing and production engineering teams, setting a new benchmark for supercars around the world.”
“This is a continuation of our outstanding partnership with Chevrolet,” Indianapolis Motor Speedway President J. Douglas Boles said. “We’re so grateful for all that Chevrolet has contributed to the success of our events. The Torch Red 2020 Corvette Stingray is a world-class machine rich with speed, performance and excitement, perfectly suited to pace the ‘500’ field.”
The pre-race festivities start at 1:00 p.m. on NBC television. The Pennzoil INDYCAR Radio Network will provide live coverage to its network. The race will also be broadcast on Sirius 211 and XM 205.
